Audiobook Review: One Man Great Enough-Abraham Lincoln's Road To Civil War

John C. Waugh's One Man Great Enough: Abraham Lincoln's Road To Civil War (Blackstone Audiobooks) is an engrossing portrait of the pre-Presidential life of the United States'16th Commander-in Chief. Read aptly by David Drummond, the book follows Lincoln from difficult childhood in Kentucky, to his ascendecy to the nation's capitol. One Man Great Enough provides a fuller view of Lincoln's deep and abiding hatred of slavery, even as it makes his plain his initial willingness to tolerate the its existence in some states. The decades-long rivalry with "The Little Giant" Stephen Douglas is also examined in fascinating detail, as are the threats that faced Lincoln even before he arrived in Washington. But it is the written words of Lincoln and those who knew him that give the listener to this book a fascinating window into the ascendent leader's life and soul as he journies to his fate with greatness.
